President of the Rotary Club of Bandar Lampung (2009-2010) Herman Gani invites college in Lampung combat thalassemia disease.
"Year 2010 RCBL will focus on public awareness program about the dangers of thalassemia. The main goal of socialization among the age RCBL is ready to get married, especially students," said Herman Gani on the 26th anniversary of RCBL in Lecazza Cafe and Resto, Telukbetung, Sunday (17 -1) night.
He added that starting early this year, Rotary will be roadshows to various universities, such as Unila, UBL, Malahayati, Umitra, and several other universities in the socialization thalassemia.
"Thalassemia become enemy number one medical world today. If men are diagnosed as patients with thalassemia major, you can bet his future will be ruined," he said.
Herman explained thalassemia is one type of hemolytic anemia and is a hereditary disease is an autosomal inherited most often found in Indonesia.
"Six to ten of every 100 people carry the gene Indonesia these diseases. If a pair of them got married, it is possible to have a child with severe thalassemia is 25," he said.
He added that the thalassemia disorders occur in genes that regulate the formation of the globin chains that disrupted production. Disorders of globin chain formation will cause damage to red blood cells that will eventually lead to the outbreak of the blood cells.
"Inevitably, people with thalassemia major have to do blood-laundering activities. They require regular transfusions every six to eight weeks throughout their lives," he said.
