Kepada :Presidents & Board Members

Kepada :
Presidents & Board Members
Rotary Clubs D-3400
Periode 2010-2011

Salam Rotary,
“ BUILDING COMMUNITIES – BRIDGING CONTINENTS”

FUND DEVELOPMENT CLUB GOAL - ROTARY CLUB D3400

DGE Al Purwa

Dear PE Eckart

Dari: "Purwa"
Dear PE Eckart,

Thank you for your email. Yes, this is still a draft, a dream, a thought and an effort of actions, whithout which our district
just keep on talking and talking for more than 15 years already and no advancement.
All of the seniors in D3400 as well as International neighbours think that to make Rotary Bigger - better - bolder, one is
to make it into 2 Districts. Indonesia is too large to be handled by one District Governor (just to give you a not, the Philipines
is handled by 10 District Governors), and how is that possible ? They all work hard on their dreams.

This is still a long way to be able to eventually acknowledged by Rotary International, because a District should have at least
60 clubs or at least 2000 Rotarians.
I am trying to show Rotarians in Indonesia that with the figures below, we are still far to far, but I like that everyone start thinking
toward the goal.

The Objective of this is to try to meet the objective of RI:
Bigger --> to have more members
Better --> to balanced clubs toward the goals of effective clubs
Bolder --> Doing bigger, higher impact and sustainable projects to benefit communities. And tell the communities what
we have done.

I am trying to encourage the Rotarians to have higher spirit of giving as well as higher spirit of becoming bigger. In the past, when
a DG gave encouragements, Rotarians laughed and gave negative comments. To me it is OK, be it, but I still can hope that
I can and may inspire more positive thinking Rotarians.
Best regards,
DGE Al Purwa

Dear DGE Al,

Wow, what a Monday surprise ! But actually I am confused .........

I know there has been discussion about splitting D3400 into two districts for quite some time. Following your below email, however, for me it is not clear whether this now has been executed already. Or is it just a "draft" to show what direction a split could take ?
(I am sorry, I could not attend the DisCon/DistAs, so I might have missed the clarification on this issue there)

Anyway, since I have just passed my first anniversary of induction only, I certainly will refrain from "omong pintar atau kosong" in this regard.
As a club president for 2010/11 I would appreciate, though, to learn what consequences for my "daily work" a district split may have. And especially, what is the Objective behind that ?

As a general "concern", I still dare to say that a Rotary district split reminds me of Indonesia's tendency to create more and more provinces, regencies, and so on.
The probable benefits of these administrative split-ups have not really shown yet. But for sure the administrative costs and coordination difficulties have increased.
But again, I may have missed the communication on the objectives for the D3400 split (apologies !).

Eckart Schumacher

2010-2011PresidentsD3400] Past Presidents institute (Forum)

Short answer to John and Linda

Dear John and Rotarians,
The KEY MESSAGES is coming from the Rotary International, that all Rotarians and club used when meeting with people to convey
the correct information about what is Rotary and what Rotary Does.

And about membership ? I like to give a short answer:
• No members - no service
• No members - no funds
• No members - there is not even Rotary

So from time to time RI jot down the importance of maintaining and recruiting members, and that has been done for the last 105 years,
if no one give encouragements continuously, maybe you and are I are not Rotarians today. Good Rotarians do what they can do based on
the lines given by RI, nobody is forced to do anything, nobody is perfect and nobody can do everything, but one thing that is not needed
the most is to promote against the lines given by RI.

Best regards, DGE Al Purwa, purwa@rotary-d3400.org

John, Linda: About Rotary Key Massages

I am getting very concerned over this current obsession of gaining members. I understand that as an organization Rotary needs to grow its membership, but this is to deliver service to the community not, as I am starting to feel, and maybe wrongly, as a source of gaining funds.

I think we need to take a look at Rtn Lynda’s experience as there has been in her eyes at least a misalignment between her understanding of Rotary and what has actually happened. Apart from everything else that Rotary does, it is first and foremost a service organization… Service above Self. I think this is true as much for any organizational unit in Rotary as it is for Rotarians themselves.

I am sorry

I joined Rotary as a way of being involved in a charitable foundation.
Thinking I could work with some projects. However the real experince is very different.
Hence I think I should resign,

ROTARY KEY MESSAGES

Rotary
Rotary is one of the largest and most influential International humanitarian service organizations in the world.

As volunteers, Rotary members have benn serving the needs of communities worldwide since 1905; Today, the 1.2 million women and men of Rotary belong to more than 33,000 clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas

Rotary is a global netwoek of business and professional leaders

Through volunteer service, Rotary members build friendships and enlarge their circle of business and professsional acquaintances; Rotary clubs are nonpolitical and open to all cultures, races and creeds

Rotary and Peace

Rotary promotes peace and international understanding through its educational and humanitarian programs

Rotary sponsors the largest privately funded international scholarship program in the world;
Rotary has teamed with leading universitites around the world to offer a master's degree program in peace and conflict resolution at six Rotary centers for International studies;
Rotary clubs promote peace by initiating thousands of international humanitarian projects every year that address the underlying causes of social instability and conflict, such as hunger, poverty, disease and iliteracy

PolioPlus

Rotary's top philanthropic goal is to eradicate polio worldwide.
Since 1985, Rotary members have contributed more than USD 900 million and countless voluteer hours to help immunize more than two billion children in 122 countries;
Rotary members are currently working to raise another USD 200 million by 2012 to match a USD 355 million challenge grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Rotary and its partners have reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide, from 350,000 cases in 1988 to less than 2,000 in 2008

An estimated five million children have been spared disability, and over 250,000 deaths averted; Yet polio still threatens children in pasrts of Africa and South Asia, and remains endemic in four countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan

The world must remain committed in order to achieve a polio-free world

If we dont stay the course, experts say polio could rebound to 10 million cases in the next 40 years, negating the world's USD 6 billion global investment; The threat of polio anywhere is a threat to children everywhere

ROTARY is committed to fighting polio until every child is safe from this devastating disease.
